Smarta

Rama’s birth is celebrated at madhyahna, the middle fifth of the day. Navami runs from 08:30 on Mon 3 Apr to 06:37 on Tue 4 Apr, so only Monday’s madhyahna (11:35–14:11) falls within it.

Vaishnava

Vaishnavas keep Rama Navami on a tithi that Ashtami does not pierce: Navami holds sunrise on Tue 4 Apr, at 06:20. Reading the Vaishnava rule by sunrise is Tithika’s convention.
