Why is Maha Shivratri on Fri 8 Mar in Sevan?

Maha Shivratri is on Fri 8 Mar: Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.

Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha, 00:45 Sat–01:34 Sat. Chaturdashi: 20:28 to 16:48 Sat.

Chaturdashi ended at 16:48; nishitha is Amavasya.

One row per day, on one clock (UTC+4). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Chaturdashi runs from 20:28 on Fri 8 Mar to 16:48 on Sat 9 Mar, so only Friday night’s nishitha (00:45 Sat–01:34 Sat) falls within it.

The rule

Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi (purnimanta) · Magha Krishna Chaturdashi (amanta)

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta.

Smarta: the night whose nishitha Chaturdashi holds; when it touches both or neither, the later (Nirnayasindhu).
Vaishnava: the Smarta day.
