Why is Maha Shivratri on Sat 18 Feb in Sevan?

Maha Shivratri is on Sat 18 Feb: Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.

Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha, 00:47 Sun–01:39 Sun. Chaturdashi: 18:32 to 14:48 Sun.

Chaturdashi ended at 14:48; nishitha is Amavasya.

One row per day, on one clock (UTC+4). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Chaturdashi runs from 18:32 on Sat 18 Feb to 14:48 on Sun 19 Feb, so only Saturday night’s nishitha (00:47 Sun–01:39 Sun) falls within it.

The rule

Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi (purnimanta) · Magha Krishna Chaturdashi (amanta)

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta.

Smarta: the night whose nishitha Chaturdashi holds; when it touches both or neither, the later (Nirnayasindhu).
Vaishnava: the Smarta day.
