Why is Maha Shivratri on Wed 26 Feb in Sevan?

Maha Shivratri is on Wed 26 Feb: Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.

Nishitha is Trayodashi; Chaturdashi begins at 09:38 Wed.

Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha, 00:46 Thu–01:38 Thu. Chaturdashi: 09:38 to 07:25 Thu.

One row per day, on one clock (UTC+4). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Chaturdashi runs from 09:38 on Wed 26 Feb to 07:25 on Thu 27 Feb, so only Wednesday night’s nishitha (00:46 Thu–01:38 Thu) falls within it.

Vaishnava: the Smarta day.
