Why is Maha Shivratri on Fri 16 Feb in Ipameri?

Maha Shivratri is on Fri 16 Feb: Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.

Nishitha is Trayodashi; Chaturdashi begins at 04:00 Fri.

Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha, 00:04 Sat–00:49 Sat. Chaturdashi: 04:00 to 05:06 Sat.

One row per day, on one clock (UTC−3). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Chaturdashi runs from 04:00 on Fri 16 Feb to 05:06 on Sat 17 Feb, so only Friday night’s nishitha (00:04 Sat–00:49 Sat) falls within it.

The rule

Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi (purnimanta) · Magha Krishna Chaturdashi (amanta)

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta.

Smarta: the night whose nishitha Chaturdashi holds; when it touches both or neither, the later (Nirnayasindhu).
Vaishnava: the Smarta day.
