Why is Maha Shivratri on Mon 21 Feb in Ipameri?

Maha Shivratri is on Mon 21 Feb: Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.

Nishitha is Trayodashi; Chaturdashi begins at 02:05 Mon. Chaturdashi: 02:05 Mon to 01:00 Tue.

Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha, 00:03 Tue–00:49 Tue. Chaturdashi: 02:05 to 01:00 Tue.

One row per day, on one clock (UTC−3). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Chaturdashi runs from 02:05 on Mon 21 Feb to 01:00 on Tue 22 Feb, so only Monday night’s nishitha (00:03 Tue–00:49 Tue) falls within it.

The rule

Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi (purnimanta) · Magha Krishna Chaturdashi (amanta)

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta.

Vaishnava: the Smarta day.
