Why is Maha Shivratri on Thu 12 Feb in Ipameri?

Maha Shivratri is on Thu 12 Feb: Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.

Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha, 00:04 Fri–00:49 Fri. Chaturdashi: 20:46 to 23:15 Fri.

Chaturdashi ended at 23:15; nishitha is Amavasya. Chaturdashi: 20:46 Thu to 23:15.

One row per day, on one clock (UTC−3). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Chaturdashi runs from 20:46 on Thu 12 Feb to 23:15 on Fri 13 Feb, so only Thursday night’s nishitha (00:04 Fri–00:49 Fri) falls within it.

The rule

Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi (purnimanta) · Magha Krishna Chaturdashi (amanta)

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta.

Vaishnava: the Smarta day.
