Why is Maha Shivratri on Mon 7 Mar in Sevan?

Maha Shivratri is on Mon 7 Mar: Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.

Nishitha is Trayodashi; Chaturdashi begins at 11:50 Mon.

Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha, 00:45 Tue–01:35 Tue. Chaturdashi: 11:50 to 09:04 Tue.

One row per day, on one clock (UTC+4). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Chaturdashi runs from 11:50 on Mon 7 Mar to 09:04 on Tue 8 Mar, so only Monday night’s nishitha (00:45 Tue–01:35 Tue) falls within it.

The rule

Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi (purnimanta) · Magha Krishna Chaturdashi (amanta)

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta.

Smarta: the night whose nishitha Chaturdashi holds; when it touches both or neither, the later (Nirnayasindhu).
Vaishnava: the Smarta day.
