Why is Maha Shivratri on Thu 27 Feb in Sevan?

Maha Shivratri is on Thu 27 Feb: Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.

Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha, 00:46 Fri–01:37 Fri. Chaturdashi: 18:48 to 15:20 Fri.

Chaturdashi ended at 15:20; nishitha is Amavasya.

One row per day, on one clock (UTC+4). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Chaturdashi runs from 18:48 on Thu 27 Feb to 15:20 on Fri 28 Feb, so only Thursday night’s nishitha (00:46 Fri–01:37 Fri) falls within it.

The rule

Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi (purnimanta) · Magha Krishna Chaturdashi (amanta)

Vaishnava: the Smarta day.
