Why is Janmashtami on Sun 2 Sep or Mon 3 Sep in Myjava?
Smarta · Janmashtami is on Sun 2 Sep: Ashtami holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.
Ashtami holds all of nishitha, 00:28 Mon–01:10 Mon. Ashtami: 17:17 to 15:50 Mon.
Ashtami ended at 15:50; nishitha is Navami.
One row per day, on one clock (UTC+2). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.
Krishna’s birth is celebrated at nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Ashtami runs from 17:17 on Sun 2 Sep to 15:50 on Mon 3 Sep, so only Sunday night’s nishitha (00:28 Mon–01:10 Mon) falls within it.
Vaishnavas keep Janmashtami on a tithi that Saptami does not pierce: Ashtami holds sunrise on Mon 3 Sep, at 06:08. Reading the Vaishnava rule by sunrise is Tithika’s convention.
