Why is Janmashtami on Mon 14 Aug or Tue 15 Aug in Myjava?
Smarta · Janmashtami is on Mon 14 Aug: Ashtami holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.
Ashtami holds all of nishitha, 00:35 Tue–01:13 Tue. Ashtami: 16:15 to 14:09 Tue.
Ashtami ended at 14:09; nishitha is Navami.
One row per day, on one clock (UTC+2). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.
Krishna’s birth is celebrated at nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Ashtami runs from 16:15 on Mon 14 Aug to 14:09 on Tue 15 Aug, so only Monday night’s nishitha (00:35 Tue–01:13 Tue) falls within it.
Vaishnavas keep Janmashtami on a tithi that Saptami does not pierce: Ashtami holds sunrise on Tue 15 Aug, at 05:42. Reading the Vaishnava rule by sunrise is Tithika’s convention.
