Why is Rama Navami on Thu 7 Apr or Fri 8 Apr in Pāthardi?
Smarta · Rama Navami is on Thu 7 Apr: Navami holds all of madhyahna that day, and no other.
Navami holds all of madhyahna, 11:16–13:46. Navami: 09:09 to 10:29 Fri.
Navami ended at 10:29; madhyahna is Dashami. Navami: 09:09 Thu to 10:29.
One row per day, on one clock (IST). Band: the tithi. Box: Madhyahna. Light strip: day; dark strip: night.
Rama’s birth is celebrated at madhyahna, the middle fifth of the day. Navami runs from 09:09 on Thu 7 Apr to 10:29 on Fri 8 Apr, so only Thursday’s madhyahna (11:16–13:46) falls within it.
Vaishnavas keep Rama Navami on a tithi that Ashtami does not pierce: Navami holds sunrise on Fri 8 Apr, at 06:17. Reading the Vaishnava rule by sunrise is Tithika’s convention.
