Why is Nirjala Ekadashi on Thu 25 Jun in Thazhecode?
Nirjala Ekadashi is on Thu 25 Jun: Ekadashi holds that sunrise and all of its arunodaya.
Ekadashi through all of arunodaya and at sunrise. Ekadashi: 18:12 Wed to 20:09.
Ekadashi ended at 20:09 Thu; arunodaya is Dwadashi.
One row per day, on one clock (IST). Band: the tithi. Box: Arunodaya. Light strip: day; dark strip: night. Sun: sunrise.
Smartas test Ekadashi at sunrise: it holds sunrise on Thu 25 Jun only, at 06:05: Thu 25 Jun. Vaishnavas test arunodaya: Dashami ended at 18:12 Wed, before it (04:29–06:05).
Breaking the fast
Smarta · Vaishnava · Fri 26 Jun, 06:05–18:52 (sunset, Tithika’s convention)
Parana is on Dwadashi, after its first quarter (harivasara) and before it ends. Dwadashi runs from 20:09 on Thu 25 Jun to 22:22 on Fri 26 Jun; harivasara ends at 02:43. So parana runs from sunrise on Fri 26 Jun, 06:05. Parana is a day act, so Tithika ends the window at sunset, 18:52: Tithika’s convention. Dwadashi runs past midday: the Dharmasindhu reports that many keep parana to the first 3 muhurtas after sunrise, until 08:38.
