Why is Maha Shivratri on Thu 22 Feb in Ipameri?

Maha Shivratri is on Thu 22 Feb: Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.

Nishitha is Trayodashi; Chaturdashi begins at 10:47 Thu.

Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha, 00:03 Fri–00:49 Fri. Chaturdashi: 10:47 to 07:11 Fri.

One row per day, on one clock (UTC−3). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Chaturdashi runs from 10:47 on Thu 22 Feb to 07:11 on Fri 23 Feb, so only Thursday night’s nishitha (00:03 Fri–00:49 Fri) falls within it.

The rule

Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi (purnimanta) · Magha Krishna Chaturdashi (amanta)

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta.

Smarta: the night whose nishitha Chaturdashi holds; when it touches both or neither, the later (Nirnayasindhu).
Vaishnava: the Smarta day.
