Why is Maha Shivratri on Sun 29 Feb in Ipameri?

Maha Shivratri is on Sun 29 Feb: Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.

Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha, 00:01 Mon–00:48 Mon. Chaturdashi: 19:43 to 16:38 Mon.

Chaturdashi ended at 16:38; nishitha is Amavasya.

One row per day, on one clock (UTC−3). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Chaturdashi runs from 19:43 on Sun 29 Feb to 16:38 on Mon 1 Mar, so only Sunday night’s nishitha (00:01 Mon–00:48 Mon) falls within it.

The rule

Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi (purnimanta) · Magha Krishna Chaturdashi (amanta)

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta.

Smarta: the night whose nishitha Chaturdashi holds; when it touches both or neither, the later (Nirnayasindhu).
Vaishnava: the Smarta day.
