Why is Maha Shivratri on Mon 5 Mar in Ipameri?

Maha Shivratri is on Mon 5 Mar: Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.

Nishitha is Trayodashi; Chaturdashi begins at 09:55 Mon.

Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha, 00:00 Tue–00:47 Tue. Chaturdashi: 09:55 to 12:35 Tue.

One row per day, on one clock (UTC−3). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Chaturdashi runs from 09:55 on Mon 5 Mar to 12:35 on Tue 6 Mar, so only Monday night’s nishitha (00:00 Tue–00:47 Tue) falls within it.

The rule

Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi (purnimanta) · Magha Krishna Chaturdashi (amanta)

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta.

Smarta: the night whose nishitha Chaturdashi holds; when it touches both or neither, the later (Nirnayasindhu).
Vaishnava: the Smarta day.
