Why is Maha Shivratri on Thu 16 Feb in Ipameri?

Maha Shivratri is on Thu 16 Feb: Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.

Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha, 00:04 Fri–00:49 Fri. Chaturdashi: 23:49 to 22:14 Fri.

Chaturdashi ended at 22:14; nishitha is Amavasya. Chaturdashi: 23:49 Thu to 22:14.

One row per day, on one clock (UTC−3). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Chaturdashi runs from 23:49 on Thu 16 Feb to 22:14 on Fri 17 Feb, so only Thursday night’s nishitha (00:04 Fri–00:49 Fri) falls within it.

The rule

Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi (purnimanta) · Magha Krishna Chaturdashi (amanta)

Vaishnava: the Smarta day.
