Why is Maha Shivratri on Wed 23 Feb in Sevan?

Maha Shivratri is on Wed 23 Feb: Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.

Nishitha is Trayodashi; Chaturdashi begins at 09:14 Wed.

Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha, 00:47 Thu–01:38 Thu. Chaturdashi: 09:14 to 11:57 Thu.

One row per day, on one clock (UTC+4). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Chaturdashi runs from 09:14 on Wed 23 Feb to 11:57 on Thu 24 Feb, so only Wednesday night’s nishitha (00:47 Thu–01:38 Thu) falls within it.

Vaishnava: the Smarta day.
