Why is Maha Shivratri on Wed 26 Feb in Myshkin?

Maha Shivratri is on Wed 26 Feb: Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.

Nishitha is Trayodashi; Chaturdashi begins at 08:38 Wed.

Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha, 00:10 Thu–01:05 Thu. Chaturdashi: 08:38 to 06:25 Thu.

One row per day, on one clock (UTC+3). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Chaturdashi runs from 08:38 on Wed 26 Feb to 06:25 on Thu 27 Feb, so only Wednesday night’s nishitha (00:10 Thu–01:05 Thu) falls within it.

The rule

Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi (purnimanta) · Magha Krishna Chaturdashi (amanta)

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta.

Smarta: the night whose nishitha Chaturdashi holds; when it touches both or neither, the later (Nirnayasindhu).
Vaishnava: the Smarta day.
