Why is Maha Shivratri on Mon 28 Feb in Myjava?

Maha Shivratri is on Mon 28 Feb: Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.

Chaturdashi holds all of nishitha, 23:35–00:27 Tue. Chaturdashi: 22:46 to 20:30 Tue.

Chaturdashi ended at 20:30; nishitha is Amavasya.

One row per day, on one clock (UTC+1). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Chaturdashi runs from 22:46 on Mon 28 Feb to 20:30 on Tue 1 Mar, so only Monday night’s nishitha (23:35–00:27 Tue) falls within it.

The rule

Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi (purnimanta) · Magha Krishna Chaturdashi (amanta)

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta.

Smarta: the night whose nishitha Chaturdashi holds; when it touches both or neither, the later (Nirnayasindhu).
Vaishnava: the Smarta day.
