Why is Maha Shivratri on Thu 15 Feb in Sevan?

Maha Shivratri is on Thu 15 Feb: Chaturdashi touches nishitha that night, and no other.

Trayodashi until 01:21 Fri, inside nishitha; then Chaturdashi. Chaturdashi: 01:21 Fri to 23:00 Fri.

Chaturdashi ended at 23:00; nishitha is Amavasya. Chaturdashi: 01:21 to 23:00.

One row per day, on one clock (UTC+4). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Chaturdashi runs from 01:21 on Fri 16 Feb to 23:00 on Fri 16 Feb, so it touches only Thursday night’s nishitha (00:47 Fri–01:40 Fri).

The rule

Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi (purnimanta) · Magha Krishna Chaturdashi (amanta)

Shiva’s worship centres on nishitha, the midnight muhurta.

Smarta: the night whose nishitha Chaturdashi holds; when it touches both or neither, the later (Nirnayasindhu).
Vaishnava: the Smarta day.
