Karwa Chauth is on Sun 20 Oct: Chaturthi touches moonrise on neither night, and the later day is taken.

Moonrise at 20:48 is Tritiya; Chaturthi begins at 22:16. Chaturthi: 22:16 to 19:47 Sun.

Chaturthi ended at 19:47; moonrise at 21:54 is Panchami. Chaturthi: 22:16 Sat to 19:47.

The Karwa Chauth fast is broken at moonrise. Chaturthi runs from 22:16 on Sat 19 Oct to 19:47 on Sun 20 Oct, between the two nights’ moonrise, touching neither. The Dharmasindhu then takes the later day: Sun 20 Oct.

The rule

Kartika Krishna Chaturthi (purnimanta) · Ashwina Krishna Chaturthi (amanta)

The Karwa Chauth fast is broken at moonrise.

Smarta: the night whose moonrise Chaturthi holds; when it touches both, the earlier; when neither, the later (Dharmasindhu).
Vaishnava: the Smarta day.
