Why is Karwa Chauth on Sun 19 Oct in Myjava?

Karwa Chauth is on Sun 19 Oct: Chaturthi touches moonrise on neither night, and the later day is taken.

Moonrise at 19:46 is Tritiya; Chaturthi begins at 20:50. Chaturthi: 20:50 to 18:57 Sun.

Chaturthi ended at 18:57; moonrise at 20:31 is Panchami. Chaturthi: 20:50 Sat to 18:57.

One row per day, on one clock (UTC+2). Band: the tithi. Line: Moonrise. Dark strip: night.

The Karwa Chauth fast is broken at moonrise. Chaturthi runs from 20:50 on Sat 18 Oct to 18:57 on Sun 19 Oct, between the two nights’ moonrise, touching neither. The Dharmasindhu then takes the later day: Sun 19 Oct.

The rule

Kartika Krishna Chaturthi (purnimanta) · Ashwina Krishna Chaturthi (amanta)

The Karwa Chauth fast is broken at moonrise.

Smarta: the night whose moonrise Chaturthi holds; when it touches both, the earlier; when neither, the later (Dharmasindhu).
Vaishnava: the Smarta day.
