Why is Karwa Chauth on Sun 6 Oct in Myjava?

Karwa Chauth is on Sun 6 Oct: Chaturthi touches moonrise on neither night, and the later day is taken.

Moonrise at 19:00 is Tritiya; Chaturthi begins at 19:12. Chaturthi: 19:12 to 15:59 Sun.

Chaturthi ended at 15:59; moonrise at 19:34 is Panchami.

One row per day, on one clock (UTC+1). Band: the tithi. Line: Moonrise. Dark strip: night.

The Karwa Chauth fast is broken at moonrise. Chaturthi runs from 19:12 on Sat 5 Oct to 15:59 on Sun 6 Oct, between the two nights’ moonrise, touching neither. The Dharmasindhu then takes the later day: Sun 6 Oct.

The rule

Kartika Krishna Chaturthi (purnimanta) · Ashwina Krishna Chaturthi (amanta)

The Karwa Chauth fast is broken at moonrise.

Smarta: the night whose moonrise Chaturthi holds; when it touches both, the earlier; when neither, the later (Dharmasindhu).
Vaishnava: the Smarta day.
