Why is Janmashtami on Sun 25 Aug or Mon 26 Aug in Myjava?
Smarta · Janmashtami is on Sun 25 Aug: Ashtami holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.
Ashtami holds all of nishitha, 00:31 Mon–01:12 Mon. Ashtami: 00:09 Mon to 22:50 Mon.
Ashtami ended at 22:50; nishitha is Navami. Ashtami: 00:09 to 22:50.
One row per day, on one clock (UTC+2). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.
Krishna’s birth is celebrated at nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Ashtami runs from 00:09 on Mon 26 Aug to 22:50 on Mon 26 Aug, so only Sunday night’s nishitha (00:31 Mon–01:12 Mon) falls within it.
Vaishnavas keep Janmashtami on a tithi that Saptami does not pierce: Ashtami holds sunrise on Mon 26 Aug, at 05:58. Reading the Vaishnava rule by sunrise is Tithika’s convention.
