Why is Janmashtami on Sun 17 Aug in Thazhecode?
Janmashtami is on Sun 17 Aug: Ashtami holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.
Nishitha is Saptami; Ashtami begins at 05:56 Sun.
Ashtami holds all of nishitha, 00:07 Mon–00:53 Mon. Ashtami: 05:56 to 06:06 Mon.
One row per day, on one clock (IST). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.
Krishna’s birth is celebrated at nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Ashtami runs from 05:56 on Sun 17 Aug to 06:06 on Mon 18 Aug, so only Sunday night’s nishitha (00:07 Mon–00:53 Mon) falls within it. Every reading takes that day.
