Why is Janmashtami on Mon 13 Aug in Myjava?

Janmashtami is on Mon 13 Aug: Ashtami holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.

Nishitha is Saptami; Ashtami begins at 07:01 Mon.

Ashtami holds all of nishitha, 00:35 Tue–01:13 Tue. Ashtami: 07:01 to 04:45 Tue.

One row per day, on one clock (UTC+2). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.

Krishna’s birth is celebrated at nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Ashtami runs from 07:01 on Mon 13 Aug to 04:45 on Tue 14 Aug, so only Monday night’s nishitha (00:35 Tue–01:13 Tue) falls within it. Every reading takes that day.

The rule

Bhadrapada Krishna Ashtami (purnimanta) · Shravana Krishna Ashtami (amanta)

Krishna’s birth is celebrated at nishitha, the midnight muhurta.

Smarta: the night whose nishitha Ashtami holds; when it touches both or neither, the later (Dharmasindhu).
Vaishnava: a Ashtami that Saptami does not pierce, read at sunrise: Tithika’s convention.
