Why is Janmashtami on Sun 11 Aug or Mon 12 Aug in Myjava?
Smarta · Janmashtami is on Sun 11 Aug: Ashtami holds all of nishitha that night, and no other.
Ashtami holds all of nishitha, 23:36–00:13 Mon. Ashtami: 20:29 to 18:14 Mon.
Ashtami ended at 18:14; nishitha is Navami.
One row per day, on one clock (UTC+1). Band: the tithi. Box: Nishitha. Dark strip: night.
Krishna’s birth is celebrated at nishitha, the midnight muhurta. Ashtami runs from 20:29 on Sun 11 Aug to 18:14 on Mon 12 Aug, so only Sunday night’s nishitha (23:36–00:13 Mon) falls within it.
Vaishnavas keep Janmashtami on a tithi that Saptami does not pierce: Ashtami holds sunrise on Mon 12 Aug, at 04:36. Reading the Vaishnava rule by sunrise is Tithika’s convention.
