Why is Devshayani Ekadashi on Sat 21 Jul in Split?
Devshayani Ekadashi is on Sat 21 Jul: Ekadashi holds that sunrise and all of its arunodaya.
Ekadashi through all of arunodaya and at sunrise. Ekadashi: 22:43 Fri to 20:45.
Ekadashi ended at 20:45 Sat; arunodaya is Dwadashi.
One row per day, on one clock (UTC+2). Band: the tithi. Box: Arunodaya. Light strip: day; dark strip: night. Sun: sunrise.
Smartas test Ekadashi at sunrise: it holds sunrise on Sat 21 Jul only, at 05:32: Sat 21 Jul. Vaishnavas test arunodaya: Dashami ended at 22:43 Fri, before it (03:56–05:32).
Breaking the fast
Smarta · Vaishnava · Sun 22 Jul, 05:33–18:59
Parana is on Dwadashi, after its first quarter (harivasara) and before it ends. Dwadashi runs from 20:45 on Sat 21 Jul to 18:59 on Sun 22 Jul; harivasara ends at 02:18. So parana runs from sunrise on Sun 22 Jul, 05:33. Dwadashi runs past midday: the Dharmasindhu reports that many keep parana to the first 3 muhurtas after sunrise, until 08:32.
