Why is Devshayani Ekadashi on Tue 20 Jul in Progress?
Devshayani Ekadashi is on Tue 20 Jul: Ekadashi holds that sunrise and all of its arunodaya.
Ekadashi through all of arunodaya and at sunrise. Ekadashi: 01:30 to 22:47.
Ekadashi ended at 22:47 Tue; arunodaya is Dwadashi.
One row per day, on one clock (UTC+9). Band: the tithi. Box: Arunodaya. Light strip: day; dark strip: night. Sun: sunrise.
Smartas test Ekadashi at sunrise: it holds sunrise on Tue 20 Jul only, at 04:35: Tue 20 Jul. Vaishnavas test arunodaya: Dashami ended at 01:30, before it (02:59–04:35).
Breaking the fast
Smarta · Vaishnava · Wed 21 Jul, 04:36–19:56
Parana is on Dwadashi, after its first quarter (harivasara) and before it ends. Dwadashi runs from 22:47 on Tue 20 Jul to 19:56 on Wed 21 Jul; harivasara ends at 04:05. So parana runs from sunrise on Wed 21 Jul, 04:36. Dwadashi runs past midday: the Dharmasindhu reports that many keep parana to the first 3 muhurtas after sunrise, until 07:44.
